UNIT 1.6 PHOTOELECTRON SPECTROSCOPY

Chemistry is the study of matter and interactions.  Chemistry overlaps with many other sciences.

Below is the contents for this sub unit.

PHOTOELECTRIC SPECTROSCOPY

Photoelectron Spectroscopy allows us to look at the energy necessary to remove electrons from an atom.  The output is a series of bumps.  The ratio of the bumps tells us how many electrons are in each orbital and the order is the same as the electron configuration.  So the bump with the highest energy is always the 1s orbital.

I suggest you look up different photoelectric spectroscopy and be able to identify the element the spectrum corresponds to.  Be careful to see which side is the highest energy and look for breaks in the chart.
