Absorption of light:
An instrument shines light. If nothing stops it, the light passes 100%. However, as compounds that can block or absorb that light, the light will decrease based on the equation above. The molar absorptivity is given or determined experimentally. The path length can be measured. The concentration is either determined or measured.
