UNIT 3.8 REPRESENTATIONS OF SOLUTIONS

REPRESENTATION OF SOLUTIONS

Look at the picture above.  The large sphere represent silver and the black sphere represent chlorine.  Look at beaker A (on the left), if the initial concentration of silver is 2 M, what is the concentration of the chlorine?

Answer: So there are 3 Ag+ atoms and 6 Cl- atoms.  If the 3 atoms represent 2M, the 6 atoms represent ????

Look at beaker B.  The Ag+ reacts with Cl- to form a solid.  What is the final concentration of the chlorine?

Answer:  Only 3 free chlorine atoms remain therefore it is ???

​

For some this is easy but these can become complicated.  We will practice these as they show up on almost every AP test.
